How to: Filter posts by Stage, Place & Topic

This is the second in a number of ‘how to’ posts. This time I’ll explain how to filter posts by stage, place & topic. Filtering posts using Chattr Mums is very easy and allows you to find other people of the same stage of pregnancy or month of birth, location, and those who are chatting about similar subjects.

Where to find the filtering toolbar

The filtering toolbar can be found at the top of the page, just above the ‘what are you up to?’ box.

The toolbar is automatically set to filter posts by stage, so you can easily find others at a similar stage of pregnancy of month of birth.

How to filter

To view posts by people from other stages, click on the arrows at either side of the toolbar.

Once you have found the stage you’re looking for, click on it to view all posts from people at that stage.

If you would like to filter posts by location, simply click on the ‘place’ button at the top of the toolbar. Use the arrows at either side of the toolbar to find the place you want and click on it to view all posts by people at that location.

Similarly, if you would like to filter posts by topic, simply click on the ‘topic’ button at the top of the toolbar. Filtering posts by topic gives you a snapshot of what is being discussed on Chattr Mums. If you would like to see posts relating to a certain word, simply click on it and the posts will be displayed below.

You can also view all posts on Chattr Mums by clicking the ‘All’ button at the top of the toolbar.

I hope you’ve found this blog post useful. If you would like me to write a ‘how to’ post about anything else on the website, please get in contact via the feedback form.

How to: chat to people

This is the first of a number of ‘how to’ posts. Today, we’re going to cover off the basics – chatting to people. All of the tips below assume you’re logged in to the site.

Telling everyone how you feel

If you want to share something with the site’s community of mums, just type in your chat box at the top of your home page.

Chat to the community

Your post will be visible to all to see (unless you’ve set your privacy settings so only your friends can see your posts – more about that in a later blog post).

Chatting directly to someone

If you see someone on the site who you’d like to chat directly to, just click the ‘chat’ link that becomes visible when you hover over their profile picture on your homepage.

Chat to a specific mum

Clicking that link will update your chat box and you’ll be able to start typing your message to that person…

Write a message to a mum

When you hit ‘post’, your message will be saved and the person you’re chatting to will receive an email notification with your message in it. (Email notifications can be turned off in your privacy settings so if you don’t want to receive them when anyone mentions you, you can stop that happening.)

You can also chat to multiple people in this way by just mentioning them in your post – remember to put an ‘@’ symbol in front of their username. For example:

Replying to a conversation

If you’ve read someone’s post and you want to reply to them, click the ‘reply’ link that appears when you hover over the post.

Click reply to reply to a post

Your chat box will change to show you’re replying to that post (the original post will be shown so you don’t have to remember what the post said).

Write a reply

When you post the reply, everyone involved in that conversation will receive an email notification with your message in it – unless they’ve got their reply notification setting switched off.

New feature: posts via RSS

Here at Chattr Mums HQ, we’re always looking for ways to make the service easier to use. We’ve got a few updates to tell you about, but let’s start at the beginning rather than bombard you…

Today we launched access to the public posts via RSS so you now don’t need to come back to the site to hear the new conversations that are happening within the community. Just look for the following link at the bottom of our homepage:

Latest posts by RSS

If you’re not sure what RSS is, here’s a handy video that’ll help you understand it.  We think it’s cool & really useful. You can even add our posts to your iGoogle page thanks to this new feature.

Hope you like this new feature!

A new way to meet mums and mums-to-be

Welcome to Chattr Mums – a new way to meet mums and pregnant mums-to-be just like you!

Having your first child has to be one of the most life-changing events of anyone’s life. The rollercoaster of emotions that all women go through when they become pregnant is an amazing experience – one that is best shared with others who are going through those same emotions.

That’s why we built Chattr Mums – to allow you to meet, chat with and listen to other mums or pregnant mums-to-be who are at the same stage of pregnancy or motherhood as you.

Finding others at the same stage as you is easy – just register with your due date (or your baby’s birth date if you’re already a mum) and we’ll automatically suggest other mums at the same stage who you can chat with. So, if you haven’t already joined us, just sign up here with a few details to get started.

Over the coming days and weeks, we’ll be posting news, tips and real-life mums stories. So come back and see us sometime – or just subscribe to our feed for all the latest news.

We hope you enjoy meeting other mums just like you and we wish you a healthy pregnancy & happy parenting!
